Get Involved

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a Unite Representative?

  • Recruit new members into the Union

  • Answer members’ queries

  • Negotiate and consult with management at all levels

  • Represent members in disciplinary, grievance and other formal company procedures

  • Disseminate relevant information

  • Give you and your colleagues a voice in the union’s decision-making processes

  • Attend meetings to discuss workplace issues relevant to you and your colleagues

  • Become involved in other areas such as health and safety, equalities and lifelong learning.

Will becoming a rep damage my career?

The simple and only correct answer to this is no. It is actually unlawful for a UK employer to victimise or discriminate against someone for being a member of a trade union or carrying out their union duties. You may well find that the skills and experience you could gain outside of your normal role proves useful to you.

What do I do now?

Accredited Rep

This is a member who has been elected by their peers to represent members in capacity as a Workplace, Health & Safety, Learning or Equalities Rep.

All Reps must understand the structure of Unite. We must work together to develop our skills & confidence so to organise our workplace members and actively recruit to increase and maximise our membership density.
